Denis in chocolate

Project description

Functional description

Small food molding project. This project was developed for a presentation at Wikicité organized by the Office de la Consultation Publique de Montréal, on February 27 and 28, 2014. A little bothered by always printing cats and owls on our outings, we were looking for something more appropriate. And in the age of 3D, why not print our mayor....and why not mold him in chocolate? And a Belgian one at that.

Project completion stages

Step #1

The image is then imported into Cura.

The base is 0.5mm, the extrusion 0.8mm, and we chose to extrude the palest areas.

The face is extruded in fifteen layers. Once printing is underway, all you have to do is wait 10 minutes for the final result.

Step #2

We chose SmoothSil 940 food-grade silicone.

50 grams was enough to make an 8cmx9cm mold. Using a balance, we measured the quantities required as indicated on the instruction sheet: 45 grams of product A and 4.5 grams of product B, which we vigorously mixed and poured onto the print placed at the bottom of a plastic container.

18 hours later we have a silicone mold that needs to be cured in the oven for 2 hours at 200 degrees.

At last, the mold is ready for use.

Step #3

We melted the chocolate in a fondue pot. Once liquid, we poured it into the mold. The mold was then placed in the freezer for 10 minutes before unmolding. Et voilà!
